Film Review Blog: Changes, Changes, and more Changes
So, I made the additional changes to the film, according to my friends' suggestions. As I said before, I was feeling a little reluctant about making them. One part of me was feeling slightly demotivated, while the other part of me figured I had done my best with the editing. Still I knew that it would be best to get an outside perspective.
The first change was the quickest fix. One friend of mine suggested that the music should start at a different section, specifically earlier. Shifting the audio track did not take long and it added something to the film. By having the film start at the point right before the murder happens, it adds an element of foreshadowing. I think if this were a real movie that having the music start where it did would be very impactful. I'm very grateful that she made this suggestion, despite my reluctance.
The second change was fixing the editing from shot to shot. Collectively, they found some of the editing choppy and awkward. I was a bit confused what to do about this. For the first project we did, we just refilmed if we found something choppy. However, there was no time for this. After some brainstorming, I figured a simple fade in and fade out would smooth things out. This took a bit longer just because of how many shots seemed to end and start abruptly. However, adding fades only took two clicks, which was extremely lucky. Makes me glad I chose this editing app, even though it crashed quite a bit.
The third change took the longest. Editing the titles took the most time. This is because there were lots of required titles, and because editing titles was tedious. I had to go in and locate the titles in my project files, then edit their font color. This may not seem like much, but between finding the files, changing their fonts, and going back and forth to figure out where more contrast was needed was difficult.
So, how do I feel about the film now? Well, it definitely has more impact than the first version did. Overall, I'm feeling pretty good about the film, and regret some of my past annoyance at changing it.
