Critical Creative Reflection

Below is my critical creative reflection.

Final Product Blog: The Music Video

This video was the second film I have ever made. Not as special as the first, but it certainly helped me improve my editing skills. I have now learned a new editing app and the importance of researching editing apps beforehand. I have also learned to discuss things with my group mates into further detail, such as aspect ratio, storyboarding, and the required seconds for each shot. Doing these things will hopefully improve my next product. Despite all of this, I am still proud of this music video. Lots of things were at my group and we had to jump through many hurdles in order to get to this point. The storyline is clear, the shots came together nicely, the editing was done, and now we have a video. I am grateful that I managed to complete this with the help of my teammates and am proud of this product. I expect to do better next time and will take everything I have learned into account.

Production Blog-Editing Everything Together

Today I finally sat down and edited the entire video. I managed to be able to do it, but it wasn't easy. The editing platform I planned to use kept freezing after about 5 minutes of use. This wouldn't work out for my project so I had to go search for a new editing platform. This platform had many pros. It was free, had an infinite free trial, and seemed simple enough. However, upon installation it quickly became confusing. Thankfully, I managed to learn it with some online tutorials and after skimming some articles. I began by cropping every clip down to it's necessary duration. While filming the first shots, I managed to keep them short, which made my job easier. Then there was another issue. Piecing things together became difficult in the app. Many important tools such as clipping, splitting and muting video audio seemed to be hidden. At this point I was contemplating switching apps again or paying the first app I used for the music video. This first app had everything I

Production Blog-Editing and Getting Files Together

Today I finally got the chance to sit down and edit the clips that I have received together. I'm relying on my groupmates to film at the moment, so I'm just playing a bit of a waiting game. However, I have received some of the files I needed. This allowed me to save some time by putting the files into my editing program. However, there was something I missed regarding our song choice. I forgot to find the radio version, so I decided to email myself the file. I would have downloaded the clean version directly onto my computer, but I was having file issues. After emailing myself the files I needed to download all of the videos sent to me. Then I placed them in the media of the editing platform and then onto the video track. This gave me an opportunity to see if we were within our given time frame. When I put the clips together I realized that we were over about 10 seconds or so. This wouldn't be too much of an issue if we had all the shots filmed, but there are still some sho

Production- Afterschool Filming Blog

Image
Today I needed to stay after school to film with my groupmates. We needed to film the first couple of shots either today or tomorrow. The reasoning for the dates is because of our schedules. All of us are busy and even do things outside of or after school, so our schedules needed to match up. The shots we needed to film are the first few in the beginning, which show both actors on a street. These shots establish the characters in the story we are trying to tell. They also establish a parallel that we are trying to communicate through this music video, following two students who have similar experiences. This will hopefully show how the experiences in the music video are the norm and not the exception.  I was extremely worried about the weather, because I wasn't sure what our back up plan would be if it rained. Luckily, the weather seemed fine, so we started to film the first shot. The first challenge we had to face was not filming the school for this wide shot. I wanted to stick to

Production Blog: Testing Out Software

Today I received some of the shots required for the music video.  I've decided that I don't want to be on camera for this project either, so my group members are handling filming while I will edit. I'm more familiar with being behind the camera or on the editing software, so this is my preferred role. The other shots are currently pending. However, this gave me time to test the editing software. It also gave me time to see where a specific shot should go in our song, according to our storyboard. Due to the type of story my group is trying to portray and the editing I need to do, I will probably need to use two editing softwares. One so I can create the split screen and the second to put the clips together with the music. I did this same thing during the commercial project, so I'm prepared. Being consistent with my platform use has been useful lately. This allows me to not have to learn an entirely different program and I'm able to complete my tasks. After the first
