Introduction: All About Me

 Hello, I am Ariel. I am a 10th grader(sophomore) and my ultimate goal is to receive my Cambridge diploma for the chance of earning a scholarship. I took AICE Media Studies because I needed a Cambridge credit and Media Studies intrigued me. Film is not something I would have considered in the past, but now my eyes have been opened. I was aware that there were many aspects to film making, but learning all of the details is so fascinating. Even just learning the basic film terms has caught my attention and I'm very excited for my first project. It is a 30 second commercial and will be my first full project. I do have a history with Cambridge courses, even if it was just online, the tests were still in person. I've taken very difficult Cambridge courses in the past and I have applied myself accordingly and done well. In this course I'm planning to do the exact same in this class and I hope it shows through my work. The work for this course seems mostly project-based with blogs to record our progress. This format is very efficient and I'm looking forward to seeing how it will work as I move through the course. 

This course seems to have a lot to offer and has something that I could take into the world outside of school, which is extremely beneficial and important for education. All the classes I'm currently taking do have some real world application, but this one especially. 

Outside of school, my hobbies are playing piano and visual arts(painting, drawing and sketching). I am grateful to be receiving a formal piano education and I am on my first piece which is Gymnopedie No.1 by Erik Satie. In terms of my art, I tend to draw digitally and only on days off in order to maintain focus on my studies.  Art and piano playing are very relaxing for me and serve as a productive way for me to express my feelings.

 Going back to academics, it is great to be at school in person and I'm grateful that I am able to do so. Online school was not a bad experience for me, but I find that its better for me to be at the school. My current Cambridge courses seem challenging, but I am fully prepared to take on those challenges. Overall, I am excited for this class, this year, and my future academic endeavors.

  The First Pitch : Tiny person lost in the backyard.    This whole film would be shot as close to the ground and zoomed in as possible with the main character the size of an ant.   The Second Pitch : Women learns to love programming despite misogyny.   The Third Pitch : Ballsy kids get lost in the woods and slowly get scared by creepy happenings.     Out of the three of these we chose the third pitc h.   It would be the cheapest, the easiest, and has plenty of room in case there is the off-chance we can’t meet up as often as we wish. All woods can look the same, so we can create the appearance that we are in the same place, even if we aren’t. One of us is still a little upset about the fact that the second pitch is too difficult, but the third pitch is a good mix of simple and creative, which is exactly what we need for this class .

Planning for Chico's Revenge

  Props :   Our three actors will begin holding snacks from a convenience store, including chips and soda. We plan to buy these supplies at the convenience store when we arrive. We will also later use a simple backpack, borrowed from Ariel, a flashlight, borrowed from Naliah , a game controller that can be borrowed from Naliah or one of our actors, and a fake knife which will be bought online. Fake blood will also be used to dress the costumes.   Costumes :   Evan, Sam, and Noah will wear average clothes for their portrayed high school age, likely including jeans and T -shirts. Chico the Chihuahua will be suited in a simple collar and dog tag, which he already owns, and dressed in some fake blood.    Location :   We will have three main filming locations: the convenience store nearby the park , the isolated road , and inner woods in Easterlin Park . Filming Blog: A Whole New Film(Don’t You Dare Close Your Eyes!)

  So, 3/5/23 was the day we began to execute our new film plan. I was honestly excited to film and didn’t expect us to be done so quickly either. As I stated before, I would be the dog trainer and so I was going to be speaking a lot in the film. My lines included things like “Oh no, there’s bears in here” and constantly yelling for Chico to come. I honestly really enjoyed the experience of acting and I think the shots came out great. I’m not used to being on camera, so it was an odd experience at first, but I eventually got the hang of it.  Additionally, I’m hoping that the lines I said will bring the irony aspect of our film to fruition, but in a subtle way. I had a lot of hope in the original idea of our film being a horror comedy, with irony and a slight parody of many horror tropes being present, and I’m hoping that these aspects can be seen.
