Filming Blog: Chico is Our Star Actor!

 We finally got to film! So today, we met up at Easterlin Park and started to scope out what we needed to do before we filmed all of our scenes with Chico. Chico is actually the name of Naliah’s chihuahua, which I did not know. I genuinely thought that was just a stereotypical chihuahua name that she just made up. But, my cluelessness aside, Chico was actually very cooperative, but I’ll focus on that later. 

The first thing I want to focus on is how well Easterlin fits the vibe of our film. Not only does Easterlin have spots with the road being visible, it also has a lot of open forest. There are some paths, but it’s mostly just dark wooded areas, which fits perfectly for the nighttime scenes. Naliah told me more about the park and gave me a tour, so we could get our bearings and think about where we would film what scenes. We decided to stick to the spots that were lighter at first, then switch to the spots that were darker for the later scenes. Thinking back, I’m not sure if this will affect the film a lot, since I’ll need to edit the scenes to look like dusk and night time anyways. 

Now, I want to talk about Chico. So first off, Chico is one of the cutest dogs I have ever seen and he was also very friendly. I can’t imagine that Naliah would have brought her dog if he wasn’t friendly, but if for some reason he didn’t like me, we wouldn’t have been able to film that day, or at all. Other than that, he was actually really good to work with. He was generally more cooperative than I thought he would be, and his small size made it easy to transport him from place to place. He was also very obedient to Naliah and was easily motivated by the treats she brought. Overall, I think including an animal in the film made the experience for filming so much fun. 

We filmed a couple of scenes that day, which included all of Chico’s scenes and one of Evan(played by me) running away and escaping the forest. Overall, I’m glad we got this first set of filming done and am excited to see where the project goes from here.

Production Blog-Editing and Getting Files Together

Today I finally got the chance to sit down and edit the clips that I have received together. I'm relying on my groupmates to film at the moment, so I'm just playing a bit of a waiting game. However, I have received some of the files I needed. This allowed me to save some time by putting the files into my editing program. However, there was something I missed regarding our song choice. I forgot to find the radio version, so I decided to email myself the file. I would have downloaded the clean version directly onto my computer, but I was having file issues. After emailing myself the files I needed to download all of the videos sent to me. Then I placed them in the media of the editing platform and then onto the video track. An Introduction: A New Year, A New Group

This year my group is very different. See, last year I worked with Kayla and Hervis, but they decided to not take A-Level Media, which is okay. I've decided to work with Naliah (last initial) this year. I met her last year while tutoring for Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus and she was in the library needing help for Calculus. I think the fact that she was even in the library requesting help is a testament to her dedication to school. She seemed really sweet and had a lot of cool interests. Math clearly wasn't her favorite subject, but she loved anime and is now a promoter of the school's diversity club. I'm really glad I got to know her, and I hope we work well together this year. She was also in my AS-Level class, but we never really got to know each other until later into last year and this year. Production Blog: Only 2 Props, But a Thousand Emails

 Today another member of my group and I discussed props. She wanted to use fake blood, so we went through Amazon to try to find something practical. We ended up selecting a 16 fl oz bottle that costed a little under 10 dollars. In my opinion, it's still a bit too much, but maybe we'll end up using more than we thought. It did look realistic in the photo, but I'm hoping it looks that way in real life. We also talked about a fake gun. I remember seeing some fairly cheap ones on Amazon, but she mentioned having a BB gun that looked real enough. That was definitely fortunate, since I'm hoping money won't be added onto the issues during the project. While money and props are out of way, I needed to start emailing artists for music permission.
