Production Blog: Only 2 Props, But a Thousand Emails
Today another member of my group and I discussed props. She wanted to use fake blood, so we went through Amazon to try to find something practical. We ended up selecting a 16 fl oz bottle that costed a little under 10 dollars. In my opinion, it's still a bit too much, but maybe we'll end up using more than we thought. It did look realistic in the photo, but I'm hoping it looks that way in real life. We also talked about a fake gun. I remember seeing some fairly cheap ones on Amazon, but she mentioned having a BB gun that looked real enough. That was definitely fortunate, since I'm hoping money won't be added onto the issues during the project. While money and props are out of way, I needed to start emailing artists for music permission. After identifying the artist and song, then began the hunt for contact information. It wasn't hard finding the label that the artist was under and some artist had theirs emails on their social media. However, I needed to find more people that were higher up in the company. I managed to find a website that stated it could find emails for certain employees. At first I was suspicious, but it was worth a try. I'm grateful that this website exists and I managed to get loads of emails for free. I'll definitely be using it again. The artists I had to email were H.E.R. and Kendrick Lamar. Their songs are not only nice to the ears, but they have themes that fit our genre and storyline. The one thing I'm worried about is when we will get responses, which is why I emailed multiple employees. I also ensured that my partner sent messages through social media. Hopefully are use of multiple routes of communication ensures a response. Overall, I'm glad we got this next step out of the way.
