Production Blog: The Park Was Being Used...

Image
I tried to get the group together to film again, this time at a park near the school we attend. Two people were away, so it was just me and Kayla. We decided to film what we could. I could just deal with the rest of the shots later. Driving to the park was a little confusing at first, since it's a bit hidden from the road, but I eventually found it. Once Kayla arrived we first had to set up the GoPro we wanted to film some shots with. I saw lots of people around playing sports, but I didn't worry. Since we were filming on the grassy areas, none of them would be on camera. We sat down at a table to set up and GoPro and talk about what we needed to film. I noticed some granola bars and drinks on the table, but figured that as long as we didn't touch them we would be fine. Apparently, I was wrong. A woman came over and asked if we could move because they were hosting a tennis tournament. I'd never even heard of tennis tournaments being hosted in that area, but I am in scho

Filming Blog: Getting Shots Started and Encountering Some Issues

Image
Today I decided to deal with a shot that I realized was going to be easiest for me to film. In the storyboard, there's an establishing shot of a house, showing where one of the characters lives. I realized that I had no idea how busy the other members were, or if they were going to be able to film at all. Phones could break, it could rain, or their home could be under construction or renovation. These were aspects I hadn't considered beforehand. So, I decided to head outside and film my own house. I also did some basic math regarding how long the shot should be. This opening scene is 2 minutes long and we sketched about 35 shots, meaning that our scenes should be around 3-4 seconds. Obviously some will deviate from this, but the outlier shots should even themselves out. These are good to keep in mind when editing comes along. So, I stepped outside and took out my phone. However, I encountered a small problem. When I stepped with the phone, it caused a shake in the camera frame.

Production Blog: Storyboard Organization and Filming What We Can

Image
Filming is being held off until next week. Honestly, I'm not happy about it, but we'll be filming eventually. Besides, when we work together, we tend to work quickly. The weather also seems to be cooperating, with little to no rain occuring. Hopefully, we can get majority of those shots filmed. One of our members is going away for spring break, but they are not needed for certain shots. Another member has had scheduling issues, but they also aren't need for certain shots. Scheduling issues weren't thought of during the creation of the storyboard, but this is still very lucky. However, this means that I should go through and organize each shot by who is required so that we know ahead of, who's in what scene. Thinking more about it, this is probably what happens during the filming of actual movies. Filming what you can at a specific time and trusting the editor to place it all together. Considering how busy actors and others involved in the film industry are and how c

Production Blog: It Rained, But That's Okay

My group has had a bunch of scheduling issues recently and it's been frustrating for a while. After lots of back and forth we were finally able to schedule for today for two people, me and another person. We decided to film the individual shots. However, when it came time to film, it seemed like it was going to rain. I still wanted to at least attempt to film, however my partner was already getting picked up. So, I went home on the bus. While I went home, I figured out what to do. I firstly decided to check on the props my partner got. Apparently they fake blood ordered already arrived, which is good for us. My partner messaged me, telling me she wanted to keep it wrapped up so that way it doesn't leak. As for the fake gun, she managed to find it in her house, which saves us money and tisme. I decided to review the storyboard and see what shots can be filmed individually, just in case schedules don't line up. I unintentionally used a lot of frames that only have one person

Production Blog: Only 2 Props, But a Thousand Emails

Today another member of my group and I discussed props. She wanted to use fake blood, so we went through Amazon to try to find something practical. We ended up selecting a 16 fl oz bottle that costed a little under 10 dollars. In my opinion, it's still a bit too much, but maybe we'll end up using more than we thought. It did look realistic in the photo, but I'm hoping it looks that way in real life. We also talked about a fake gun. I remember seeing some fairly cheap ones on Amazon, but she mentioned having a BB gun that looked real enough. That was definitely fortunate, since I'm hoping money won't be added onto the issues during the project. While money and props are out of way, I needed to start emailing artists for music permission. After identifying the artist and song, then began the hunt for contact information. It wasn't hard finding the label that the artist was under and some artist had theirs emails on their social media. However, I needed to find mo

Production Blog: First Step for Music

Image
Today our group discussed the music we would use for our film. Our film had a very specific feeling I wanted, and I’m counting on the music to do that. Another member of the group picked certain songs and made a playlist. Upon listening to the playlist, I did not feel that I could add any songs. The main thing I’m concerned about is copyright and how to contact the production companies or artists. I’ve heard that they can take months to reply, which makes me concerned. We have time for this project, but these months could go by quickly. I’m just hoping this group concurs on a song quickly. The songs on the playlist seem to be mostly r&b and hip-hop, featuring artists such as H.E.R., Kendrick Lamar, and Meek Mills. I’m not aware of these artists’ works, but they seem interesting and based on the titles they should fit the genre. After giving the songs a listen, I have some ideas in mind. The tone of certain songs does not match the feeling, while others seem to match the feeling o
