Production Blog: Choosing an Editing App?

Guess who needs to research editing apps again? Rhetorical questions aside, I need to figure out which app I'm going to use for this project. However, I need to go through what happened last year with all my other editing apps to make sure that I don't make the same mistakes twice. I went back through my blogs in chronological order and found a lot of useful information.

I recall using VideoPad for my music video, but upon looking at some of my older blogs, I remembered that it required payment to export the video after a certain period of time. Considering the fact that I refuse to cram all the editing into one day, means that I can’t really use this app. I remember it being really effective in terms of its capabilities, but I refuse to pay for any editing app. Honestly, speaking of payment, it’s like that in my everyday life too. I enjoy creating digital art(with whatever spare time I have, which is slowly but surely shrinking) but I refuse to pay for any app that enables me to do so. I just dislike when there is a price put on creativity.

So, the second app I used was ClipChamp and honestly, I vividly remember feeling frustrated with this app. It was mostly my less than state-of-the-art computer that was not working with ClipChamp, but I’ve gotten a newer one since, so I’m hoping it will work. I remember it having very intuitive editing software, so I’m hoping and praying that it will work. I also remember it being really useful for a day to night technique that I used for my final task, that was less realistic, but I’m thinking this app will be capable.

Lastly, there was OpenShot. From what I can remember and see in my blogs, OpenShot was less intuitive then clipchamp but still effective. There was a learning curve, but everything ended up being fine with my final task.

I’ll be basing my decision mostly on effectiveness, familiarity and how well I can execute day-to-night editing with the software. It may seem odd as to how I'm harping on the aspect of day-to-night editing, but it’s a really important part of this project for me and I need it to go well. I’ll have another blog to inform everyone of my decision, so watch out for that!
